Dimaeon - Void

Verdict:Listen - Enjoy -Buy(!)

The band Dimaeon, hailing from the northern Netherlands, comes back with a bang as 'Void' is a prime example of what makes a good band great.

Although 'Void' is still heavily relying on the Death Metal genre, there is so much more to this album. The technical capabilities are shown in the song 'Transcendence'. The main riff is supported by a very audible bassline and switches timing every few chords without losing its main theme. This song also showcases the excellent production, with subtle changes in atmosphere. It would have been a good opener next to 'Het Lijk Van Ons Bestaan' (The Corpse Of Our Existence). This song is what you get when Opeth, Tool and Jeff Wayne would write one together. Partly in Dutch, with spoken lyrics, with a nihilistic world view. It leaves you stunned for the next songs, where it becomes an emotional ride.

Yes, Death Metal can be emotional or trigger emotions. Eyes become wet on several occasions: be it the solo on 'Rain' or the unexpected trumpet on 'Waves'. The latter is the highlight and sends your thoughts to another dimension.

Respect where due for this album, I'm stunned.
