Drachten Death Fest 2020 - Chopped In Half

This year's Drachten Death Fest held an impressive line-up with 'bigger' names like Massacre (a.k.a. Kam Lee and who-ever is in the band at the moment) and Asphyx. It also served as the stage for newer names which were more or less part of the first half of the day. It's the part I enjoyed so much that I left early.

That first section of the bill saw the likes of Burial Remains, Gods Forsaken, Fleshcrawl, Mouflon and Martyrdöd. Positioned here in the order that the quality of their shows were.

January 18, 2020 marked the first show of Burial Remains and what a show it was. As they could rely on the brilliance of the 'Trinity Of Deception' album, basically all the band had to do was deliver, and that's what they did on a superb level. Be it the title track, 'March Of The Undead' or the inevitable Kreator-cover 'Tormentor', the band shone! Given the level of this debut show, bookers should hurry to get them on the summer festivals.

The other bands also delivered, where Gods Forsaken was another highlight with some collective goosebumps-moments. 'They Crawl' and the sinister 'From The Inside They Came' served as massive OSDM anthems, classics in the making. A very nice treat to catch these guys!

From the other bands Fleshcrawl delivered as expected and Mouflon was a pleasant surprise. Biggest and only disappointment was Martyrdöd. As it is already a strange blend of metal they make, the vocals, distuned guitars and unaudible announcements made it a tough few minutes to get through. And we had seen some much better already. Today they sounded like a poor men's The Accused.

After Fleshcrawl I called it a day with some newly acquired vinyl and shirt under my arms.

Support the underground and grab your chance to catch Burial Remains and Gods Forsaken whenever you can!
